If I were to tell you that the best video place in Chattanooga has hundreds of great films, and you can rent TEN of them at a time FOR FREE, you might call me a lying scumbag.
Whoa, whoa, easy now, cowpoke.
It's true. It's the CHATTANOOGA PUBLIC LIBRARY, by gum. Ah yes, that refuge for bookish misanthropes, and sometimes the indigent. As a recent Chattanooga transplant, I found myself immediately drawn to the downtown library. Perhaps it is the P.S.A. catchphrase from years past echoing through my head - "BOOKS! Check 'em out!" - that compelled me, like the siren song of some sort of cruel librarian temptress...one with an astigmatism, and who looks like the lovechild of Tina Fey and Lisa Loeb. But even for those who aren't particularly attracted to metaphorical women with ocular damage, the appeal of the public library is apparent.
Regular visits to the library will bespeak the haute, cheap person you are. And I will be your guide, nimbly separating the treasures from the tripe. It's a gift...from me, to you.
And yet you all continue to stand before me impatiently, as if waiting for me to squeeze the juice from pomegranates into your agape, thirsting mouths. Oh all right. I'll also post info for particularly interesting film screenings and concerts and such, happening in the area (say, within the Knoxville/Atlanta/Birmingham/Nashville circle).
TO SUMMARIZE - this journal will document:
1) Worthwhile videos/books/CDs you can check out from the Chattanooga public library.
2) A selective list of events (film/music/competitive eating competitions/etc.) in the Chattanooga area.
Live music listings/resources in Chattanooga: Chattarock.com (venue guide) | the Pulse (events calendar)| Enigma | Chattanoogan - On Stage | Nooga.com | UTC A&E listings
Film screenings in Chattanooga: AEC Independent Film Series | Local theatre listings | Chattanooga Film Blog
Road trip! Road trip!: Atlanta Shows | Creative Loafing Atlanta | Metro Pulse Calendar (Knoxville) | Knoxshows | Knoxville Museum of Art Calendar | NashvilleRock.net | Nashville Scene | Nashville Rage | Belcourt Theatre (Nashville) | Black & White (Birmingham) | Mountain Xpress (Asheville)
